Η Κορέα και Η Συμμετοχή της στους Παγκόσμιους Διαγωνισμούς Δεξιοτήτων
One of the success factors of Korea’s Development miracle after Korea War was the focus in improving the Human Capital. The poor skills and inefficiencies of the vocational training were gradually transformed to high quality achievements thanks to Governments long term policies on vocational training, R&D, Information Technology, being part of the Economic Development Plans.
An indication of this transformation was the participation and the victories at the World Skills Competitions established from Spain in 1950, the biggest today vocational education and skills excellence event in the world. The Competitors represent the best of their peers and are selected from skill competitions in WorldSkills Member countries. They are all under the age of 23 years (except for four skills that have the age limit of 25). They demonstrate technical abilities both individually and collectively to execute specific tasks for which they study and perform in their workplace.
Korea participated for the first time, in 1967 hosted in Spain and from 1973 started winning top positions. It is noteworthy that from 1977 to 1991 Korea maintained the first position in every competition. The Government supported actively the preparation and participation in Local and World Skills Competitions and the Winners were received with great pride being role models for youth.
